DIY Nail Art by Jessica

24 May

Hey girls, I’m Jessica Yuen and for my latest manicure at home, I decided to do some nail art.  All you need is your imagination, and a couple of polish colors.  This is the 1st time I’ve ever done nail art on myself, but I’m really liking the results.

Summer is just around the corner, so I’m ready to do some nail art for my toes as well!  It was tough doing it on my own nails, but I’m sure with practice, I will be able to improve my precision and creativity.

Here are the colors I used:

Essie (3 way glaze, base & top coat all in one)

Sation: Mia Tia pink

Color Madmic Nail Art Glitter: Silver, Royal Violet, and Pearl White

Nail Stickers:  Debbbbies (gold hearts)

Beauty Alert: I purchased all of my nail supplies from Skylark Nail and Beauty Supply.  They have stellar pricing on OPI ($4), Essie ($3), Color Madmic Nail Art Glitter ($1.50), and special deals like Buy 2, get 1 Free!

The Ultimate Water Bottle.

23 May

Water is essential to life, and extremely important for your health. Water naturally detoxifies your body, and so it’s definitely a great way to stay fit and healthy. When you’re properly hydrated, you should feel a bit more energized, and your skin should look better too. Overall, it’s a win-win situation.

On recent posts, we ranted and raved about Sigg bottles, because they are the perfect companion to tote around at the gym, in the car, and on the bike.

We recently got tipped off by a new product called Bobble. It’s also a water bottle, however it has a built in filter, so you can just fill it with tap water. Each sip of water goes through the filter, before you drink it!

I used to be a fan of Voss or Evian bottled water only, but I realized it was such a wasteful habit.  It was pricey, and I accumulated so many bottles for the recycling bin.  =(   Bobble makes sense when I’m traveling and don’t have access to my filtered water at home to fill the Sigg bottle.

I just purchased my Bobble today in black, and gave it a whirl.  I have to say the water taste better than 95% of the bottled water brands on the market.  My husband is leaving on a business trip soon, so I’m going to pack it with him, so he has clean water to drink at the hotel. It’s portable and will save him a couple of trips to the drink vending machine.

The Details:

-  Bobble retails for $10 (BPA free & made from recycled materials)

-  FDA approved

-  Carbon filter is good up to 300 refills

-  Replacement carbon filters are only $8

-  Comes in lots of pretty colors

-  Product is available online at www.waterbobble.com or at selected retailers

Soft Kissable Lips For 2 Bucks

22 May

Soothe your dry lips with Vaseline!  It is available in a portable tube for about $2, or you can just buy a jar for less than $5.  I’ve tried everything from expensive to cheap dollar chapstick-ish brands, but nothing seems to leave my lips as soft and hydrated.  I find myself just applying some Vaseline on my lips once, before bed and thats it!  No need to keep re-applying all day long.

Here’s a list of runner ups:

La Mer Lip Balm ($50) –  Minty taste, blend of marine extracts and vitamins.  Works well, but very expensive.

Eos Organic Lip Balm ($6) – Fun fruity, 95% organic, paraben free, phthalate free, & petroleum free.  Leaves lips smooth, but have to re-apply several times a day.

Product Review: Nars The Multiple

18 May

The Nars make-up line, has been an all time favorite for celebrities.  We know those warm and sunny summer days are quickly approaching, so we went ahead and shopped around for the perfect summer blush!  Our top pick for a light, creme blush is from Nars.  And, the shade is called Orgasm.  Another popular color is Beverly Hills.  Many of you have probably heard of this color before, since it is one of their best selling shades for the powder blush.

The main reason we suggest switching from a powder to creme blush during the hot summer weather, is to keep your face looking fresh and rosy.  Less is more, especially on those hot days!  The extra oil on your face + too many layers of powder, will leave you looking like a hot mess.

Why we love Nars The Multiple Blush in Orgasm:

-  Easy application (can blend in quickly with your finger tips)

-  Adds a nice sheen of pigment, that doesn’t look dry or powdery.

-  Leaves a healthy peachy color, with a hint of iridescence.

-  Conveniently packaged, so you can tuck it in your purse.

-  Can be used for cheeks, eyes, lips, and body.

Product Comparison:

-  We also tried Tarte Cheek Stain, but the formula was too sheer.  After application, it looked like I wiped a red popsicle on my cheek.  Very one dimensional color.  The colors were too bright for our liking.  Perhaps it would look better on someone with a fair skin tone.

Save Your Hair and Skin From Harsh Chemicals!

9 Apr

Did you know the water used in your shower/bath is full of chlorine and many other toxic chemicals?  The problem is, we don’t have control over our water source, but we can reduced/remove some of the junk that’s in it!  Based on many studies, people spend multi-millions each year on bottled water, for fear of consuming toxic chemicals.  I think people need to be aware that we bathe in the same chemicals everyday, and it is being absorbed through our skin and also through inhalation.

I live in LA, and recently noticed a strong chlorine smell every time I got out of the shower.  It never bothered me before, but now I’ve also noticed that my skin is very dry and my hair feels more rough than usual.  I did a good amount of research online about shower filters, and came across really high reviews for a brand called Sprite.  Believe me, I was tempted to spend over $100 for a good shower filter, but many of the fancy looking ones really lacked in performance (based on consumer reviews).

The installation is really easy, just screw off your existing shower head and screw on your new Sprite shower filter.  It literally takes less than 10 minutes, and you’re ready to rock n’ roll.  I just changed mine out 1 week ago, and I could immediately tell the difference.  No more chlorine smell, skin is less dry, and my hair feels more soft.

It is available at Home Depot for only $35 (price may vary, depending on style/model available), and it claims to remove the following:

  • Free Chlorine (Cl-)
  • Combined Chlorine (Sodium Hypochlorite)
  • Hydrogen Sulfide (rotten egg smell)
  • Iron oxide (rust water)
  • Dirt, sediment
  • Odors
  • Plus, its pH balanced

Classic Floral Fragrance Top Pick

8 Apr

“April showers bring May flowers”

As seasons change, you should play up your perfume to match!  In the fall/winter, I tend to go with soft sweet spices, with notes of peach or plums.  My top 2 fall/winter fragrances are Dior J’adore & Chanel Allure.  For Spring/Summer, I usually go with something sweeter like Viva La Juicy or Mangosteen by Fresh.

My new Spring/Summer recommendation is Fleurissimo by Creed (floral/fresh).

“Fleurissimo will bring out the princess in any woman, and inspire her to dream of royal beauty and romance.”

The Best Tweezers by Tweezerman.

30 Mar

Tweezing, should be effortless and quick.  Over the years, I’ve wasted so much money on replacing my dull (and uneven) tweezers, until I decided to give Tweezerman a try.  The price was a bit higher than the generic tweezer, but I was so frustrated with my cheapy pair,  I had to give it a try.

I was really blown away at the precision and results achieved.  I was able to even grab the tiniest hair follicle.  I have a mini one for travel, and a full sized one for home.  It’s been over 5 years, and my Tweezermans’ are still doing their job.  I must admit, it’s really tempting to pick up another one, since they always come out with new cute limited edition colors/patterns.  =)

For this beauty item, it’s better to splurge.  You really get what you pay for!   Every gal needs at least one pair!

Tweezerman (mini slant) tweezers $15

-  Grabs even the tiniest hairs

-  Precision

-  Easy to use

-  Durable

-  Comes in cute colors/patterns

-  Full size available for $20

The Spring “it” Color for Nail Polish

24 Mar

Kim Kardashian was recently photographed wearing a similar color polish, so we had to dash over to the local apothecary to find a similar shade.  After 15 minutes of browsing around hundreds of polish colors, we chose ISNT THAT PRECIOUS? by OPI. We love, love, love, how it turned out!

Your manicure will instantly look luxurious, healthy, natural, w/a hint of pink.  Since the color is pretty light, make sure to do 2 coats to get the full effect.  Save $$$ this year, and do your own mani/pedi.
