We are so excited to be telling you about Etude Lounge, the Best LA Beauty Salon, rated by us (and the other 100+ yelpers). Etude Lounge is definitely the best kept secret here in LA. I’m a former Toni & Guy hair model, and used to frequent their salon monthly for hair treatments, color, and cut. My hair always looked fabulous after my Toni & Guy sessions, however the tab was always upwards of $300 +.
It took a lot of research (and guts), for me to take the plunge to try out Etude Lounge. I’m sure many of you gals can relate, since choosing a new hair stylists can be a tad bit stressful. If you’re like me, you’ve at least experienced a couple of bad haircuts in your lifetime. So, finding a skilled hair stylist (who listens to what you want) is not only important, but detrimental if you care how your hair will turn out. =)
Here are the things we loved about Etude Lounge:
- Staff was friendly and very personable. The customer service here, rivals any of those Beverly Hills salons (minus the snootiness).
- My stylist Jay, was very skilled and he listened to my needs. He added layers, kept the overall length long, and also took the time to style my hair nicely (with Toni & Guy hair products).
- The atmosphere was relaxing, luxurious, and felt just like a spa. They personally come over to offer you tea, cookies, and magazines while you wait. There is also an Apple computer area, so you can peruse the Internet as you wait for your stylist.
- The front desk will check in your purse, or you can store your items in a personal locker.
- Last, but not least, the price is very reasonable. $40 for cut with a regular stylist, and $50 for a tenured stylist like Jay. Addtl hair treatments like coloring, perm, and bridal styling, will cost you extra. Please contact Etude Lounge directly for pricing.
Also, I found out that Etude Lounge offers services in nails and facials as well. However, our review is purely on the hair styling services. Try Etude Lounge and let us know what you think! It’s best to make an appointment in advance, and if you need an English speaking stylist, please tell them while you’re booking.

Did you know the water used in your shower/bath is full of chlorine and many other toxic chemicals? The problem is, we don’t have control over our water source, but we can reduced/remove some of the junk that’s in it! Based on many studies, people spend multi-millions each year on bottled water, for fear of consuming toxic chemicals. I think people need to be aware that we bathe in the same chemicals everyday, and it is being absorbed through our skin and also through inhalation.
I live in LA, and recently noticed a strong chlorine smell every time I got out of the shower. It never bothered me before, but now I’ve also noticed that my skin is very dry and my hair feels more rough than usual. I did a good amount of research online about shower filters, and came across really high reviews for a brand called Sprite. Believe me, I was tempted to spend over $100 for a good shower filter, but many of the fancy looking ones really lacked in performance (based on consumer reviews).
The installation is really easy, just screw off your existing shower head and screw on your new Sprite shower filter. It literally takes less than 10 minutes, and you’re ready to rock n’ roll. I just changed mine out 1 week ago, and I could immediately tell the difference. No more chlorine smell, skin is less dry, and my hair feels more soft.
It is available at Home Depot for only $35 (price may vary, depending on style/model available), and it claims to remove the following:

When it comes to Shu Uemura’s Beauty Oil, I’m definitely a veteran. I admit, I’ve tried cheating a few times with different cleansers, but somehow I always find myself crawling back to Shu.
It’s an easy one-step cleanser, that works quickly and gently with removing all of my make-up, including eye liner, eyelash glue, and waterproof mascara. It leaves my skin feeling refreshed, and never dry. I have been using this product for over 10 yrs. Available @ Shu Uemura boutiques, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstroms.

I’m a big snob when it comes to hand creams, balms, lotions, but I recently discovered (by accident) that extra virgin olive oil is amazing for your hands! As an avid cook, I’m always busy in the kitchen, so naturally, I’m washing my hands like a million times. Even when I lather on an expensive lotion/cream, my hands are still feel dry after it absorbs.
I dislike the greasy feeling left on my hands after using a lotion/cream, but after trying my extra virgin olive oil, I definitely feel a huge difference. You only need a tiny amount (approx. a quarter size dot), and rub it in well after you’ve washed & dried your hands. Within minutes, the olive oil will absorb, leaving your hands moisturized and feeling luxurious! Try it next time you’re working in the kitchen.
Although, I don’t recommend using your super expensive extra virgin olive oil blends, you can always find an inexpensive one at your local grocery or drugstore.
